3 Ways to Try Turmeric: The New Trend in Health
I'm always on the hunt to find healthier options for my body and on this hunt, I kept running into turmeric. Whether it was watching Dr. Oz or talking with a friend's brother, I learned that turmeric has a lot of special properties that work amazingly for your body. What is turmeric? It is a spice that has been used in India for thousand of years. It is becoming more popular on this side of the world due to its many health benefits such as its anti-inflammatory effects, which helps ward off diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's and it is a powerful antioxidant.
The spice is a thick yellow powder, so you may want to mix it in something other than water. There are many recipes out there, but there are also some quick ways to get the benefits without having to whip something up if you don't want to.
1. Almond Milk
Take 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and add it to your almond milk. I recently found this to help with a developing cold.
For this you can either grab your favorite smoothie in a bottle or make a smoothie and just mix in a teaspoon of turmeric.
I actually drink this every other morning. It's very simple, I just add 1 or 2 teaspoons of turmeric with raw honey and water.
Starting out I was using the regular turmeric that you find in the spice aisle, however I discovered a more potent version in Whole Foods that was specifically strained for drinking, Gaia Herbs TurmeicBoost Restore. The directions require you to mix 2 teaspoons in your drink. I've been using this for a few weeks, but I haven't really seen or felt a difference yet. However with all the benefits and medical research behind it, I will continue sticking with it.
